What Is Pink Noise?

Pink noise is a steady sound whose energy falls as frequency rises, leaving equal energy in each octave. Many people hear it as less sharp than white noise and more balanced across low and high frequencies.
What “equal per octave” means
An octave is a doubling of frequency: for example, 100 to 200 Hz, then 200 to 400 Hz. Pink noise gives each of those ranges an equal share of energy. This is different from white noise, which gives equal energy to bands of the same fixed width.
The result is a broad texture that often feels gentler than white noise without becoming as low-heavy as brown noise. It is still noise, though: a continuous sound rather than a melody, beat, or drone.

Choose pink noise when you want to explore a middle ground between the bright detail of white noise and the low, weighty character of brown noise. The differences are easiest to notice by switching between them at a similar level.
